Birthdays. Birds.

Do Good Things: Celebrating Experiences

Do Good Things is my way of life.  Sometimes it shows itself in very visible ways, sometimes less so.
For David’s birthday on May 14th, I decided to have him enjoy a world class experience that was only 10 minutes from home.

We went to Livingston Ripley’s Conservatory in Litchfield CT.  Nick, a master Falconner, gave David a lesson with Harris the hawk.  He showed us how to have the gorgeous bird perch on and off David’s arm; demonstrated the flight patterns; and the interesting ways of a hawk.

Nick is probably no more than 30, and yet he’s achieved world class status, and clearly has found his passion in life. We find it impossible not to be enthralled with his expertise, commitment to his calling.

David spent an hour, riveted in the instructions of Nick.  Quietly I was snapping photos and realized that all three of us were in service of Harris the Hawk.  The beauty of this hawk as it flew high and then zoomed low for David’s “perch”.  Amazing.

Imagine being swept away for an hour, and so close to home.

Imagine leaving Nick and knowing that every day he is waking up and going to bed with his beloved ducks/birds on his mind.

Do Good Things — respecting others for their goodness.
