Welcome to our home, where I hope to inspire you to live life with one principle: Do Good Things.

Where We Started

First of all, the inspiration to start this business came from my millennial son Jeremy, who is my shadow CEO (chief operating officer) and the reason I started the business.

You know the expression – “message in a bottle?”  For Jeremy, it was – “message in a lunch box!” Every day in his preschool lunch box, I would doodle my little cartoon with the message, “Do Good Things.” In addition, this was my simple way of teaching my son – first, no matter what happens, do your best every day and second, be good to others.

Fast forward through the years, this message & thousands of doodles have traveled far and wide. Not only out of the lunch box and across a variety of merchandise but to hundreds of people, family, friends, also business colleagues. Over 5 years ago we launched Do Good Things by selling limited merchandise locally and through our digital offering Do Good Things1.0. Our modest beginnings raised awareness, raised thousands of dollars, and have reached the tipping point. Furthermore, based on our early success, we are confident that overhauling our digital presence is the right thing to do.

We look forward to growing and sending our message to the globe: our world is brim full of people who live by the principle of Do Good Things.

What We Stand For

Do Good Things – it’s a way of life.  It’s a way of carrying yourself and thinking every single day about doing good things – and then actually doing them. First, you work hard to make sure you are productive every day and at the same time, help others. It’s a mantra. It’s a lifestyle you choose. Finally, it’s a call to action that guides you every moment of your day. I promise it will make you smile, and feel fulfilled.
When you do good things for others, you feel joy. As a result, you radiate happiness and contentment.

Do Good Things: It doesn’t mean that you have to abandon your day job and set out to become as great as Mother Theresa. It does mean that at least once a day you really do one good thing – small or large. Therefore, when you wake up and go to bed, you can answer faithfully – – Did I “Do Good Things” today?

My Story & Yours

I am a passionate career Mom with two millennial sons. When Jeremy’s older brother, Jason, was three and a half, he was late to be diagnosed with autism. Most noteworthy, this was the early 1990s with little information and less hope about autism. I developed my own home based remedial effort – as if I were doing rehabilitation on a stroke victim. I hired, trained, and recruited a bevy of assistants to work around the clock with me.

Two years after that initial diagnosis, Jason was on his way to recovery and eventually a full recovery. Consequently, one of the magical keys to his recovery was learning to read. Today he remains in the minority of those that have made a full recovery and he is the most voracious reader I know. There have been many advances in our awareness of autism, but not enough to assure every child diagnosed will recover.

Do Good Things – Jason, Jeremy, and I volunteer on behalf of autism so that we can raise awareness and funds. We are equally passionate about reading; we support our local library, so the joy of reading and the oasis of a local library is available to many. And finally, I jump in with open heart to help my community because this is where I call home. This is my oasis and a community that wrapped me in love when I went through a brutal divorce. Do Good Things is my way of saying thank you.

What is your story? As I blog and vlog in the days ahead, I look forward to hearing your stories!

Just A Few Examples

Do Good Things can be as simple as letting someone go in front of you in the supermarket line because you realize they are in a rush; smiling instead of frowning at the clerks in the post office; saying thank you to the UPS delivery service person who came out in the rain. So, Do Good Things can be time-consuming, but in a positive way – requiring more of your time getting involved in a local charity, being active in the Rotary Club, or donating money to a cause of your choice. Also, at the far end of the scale, it can be following the path of Do Good Things full time – join the Peace Corps, work for Teach for America, or volunteer full time locally or around the globe.

Simply put – Do Good Things is a very simple phrase to remind all of us to go through life having a positive impact, by giving to others in your daily life. When you go through life being productive and doing “good” for others – I promise you, you will feel better. Life will seem better. You will smile more. You will realize what’s really important in life.

The actions that you take are a direct reflection on YOU!

In conclusion, Do Good Things makes our world a better place. Snuff out the bad by doing good.

It is especially relevant that I do good things because I really care, and I do!!
